Wodonga City Council
Wodonga City Council is the council for Wodonga, the Victorian half of Albury–Wodonga on the Murray River, home to about 45,000 people — from West Wodonga and Killara to Baranduda, Leneva and Bandiana. Seven councillors, one per ward, choose the Mayor; Cr Michael Gobel was re-elected Mayor in November 2025. The council runs your bins, local roads and footpaths, parks, libraries and planning, and sets your rates. Here's the snapshot, followed by what affects your week.

Intention to sell land at 109 Roche Drive, Barnawartha North
Under section 114 of the Local Government Act 2020, the council has given notice that it intends to sell part of 109 Roche Drive, Barnawartha North (Parcel 1), and to grant an option to buy a second parcel to Casey Taylor Property Developments Pty Ltd. Submissions close at 5pm on Thursday 8 October 2026.

Senior Celebrations 2026: more than 70 events, 4–16 October
The council's Senior Celebrations program runs from Sunday 4 October to Friday 16 October 2026, with more than 70 free and low-cost events, including the Age Well Expo and a free concert at The Cube Wodonga on 6 October (bookings essential).
What this means for you: Bookings opened on 1 September. The program is online and at the council's Hovell St office and The Cube Wodonga.

Community Fresh Food Swap starts 12 September
A free six-month pilot where local gardeners swap surplus homegrown produce, seeds and cuttings, from 11am to 12.30pm on the second Saturday of each month at Hyphen – Wodonga Library Gallery, until February 2027.
What this means for you: Bring your own produce, however small, to take part. The council is also looking for volunteers.

2026–27 budget adopted
At its meeting on 22 June 2026 the council unanimously adopted the Budget 2026–27, including the declaration of differential rates and charges, and the Financial Plan 2026–27 to 2035–36. Average general rates rise by 2.38%, below the 2.75% cap, and the capital works program is $44.45 million.
What this means for you: The first rates instalment is due on 30 September 2026.

2026 Community Satisfaction Survey results released
The council reported that its overall performance score in the state-run 2026 Community Satisfaction Survey rose two points to 62. It said the survey identified customer service and waste management as strengths, and decision-making, advocacy and opportunities for community feedback as areas to work on.

Cr Michael Gobel re-elected Mayor, Cr Libby Hall Deputy Mayor
At the council meeting on 24 November 2025, councillors re-elected Cr Michael Gobel (Sumsion Gardens Ward) as Mayor and elected Cr Libby Hall (Racecourse Ward) as Deputy Mayor, each for a one-year term.
What this means for you: The next election of the Mayor is due in about November 2026.

Ron Mildren elected in Lake Hume Ward by-election
The VEC declared Ron Mildren elected in the 2025 Lake Hume Ward by-election, held after Cr Hannah Seymour resigned. He took the oath of office on 20 October 2025.
What this means for you: Lake Hume Ward residents can contact Cr Mildren at rmildren@wodonga.vic.gov.au.
