Hurstbridge Community Hub gets solar, batteries and a back-up generator
The Hurstbridge Hub Energy Resilience Project is nearing completion. It adds rooftop solar, battery storage, a back-up generator, public EV charging and all-electric appliances, supported by a $265,000 AusNet grant.
What this means for you: The council says the hub will be able to keep essential services running during power outages.

Free Bushfire and Community Safety Expo, Sunday 18 October
The council's expo runs from 10am to 2pm on Sunday 18 October 2026 at Alistair Knox Park, 829 Main Road, Eltham, with emergency services and other organisations on bushfire preparedness, severe weather, e-bike safety and emergency planning.

Works start at Bridge Street Sports Ground and Susan Street Oval, Eltham
The council has started a $1.22 million reconstruction of the Bridge Street Sports Ground, due for completion in mid-2027, and drainage and irrigation works at Susan Street Oval, expected to finish by the end of 2026.
What this means for you: The trail around both grounds stays open; the council says alternative grounds are available at Eltham Lower, Eltham Central and Eltham North.

Concept plan endorsed for BMX Jumps and Recreation Park in Diamond Creek
The council has endorsed the concept plan for the park at Challenger Street Reserve. A Cultural Heritage Management Plan and a planning permit are still needed before construction.
What this means for you: The planning permit application will be publicly advertised, and you'll be able to lodge an objection or a submission of support then.

Council publishes survey results on the state's glass-only bin
The council reports that 603 Nillumbik residents answered a survey run by 35 councils: 82.6% were against a glass-only bin and 94% wanted the Container Deposit Scheme to take glass wine and spirit bottles. The Victorian Government requires councils to roll out a glass-only kerbside service by July 2027; the council is asking the state to reconsider that deadline.
What this means for you: For now, glass still goes in your yellow-lid recycling bin.
