Hume City Council
A council in Melbourne's north, home to about 279,000 people. - Council meeting
Council meeting 14 September 2026: Mickleham Road intersections and Sunbury Road
The council endorsed a state request to use Craigieburn West Infrastructure Contribution Plan funds for signalised intersections on Mickleham Road at Cookes Road and Dunhelen Lane. It also resolved to write to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety seeking funding to duplicate Sunbury Road between Bulla-Diggers Rest Road and Melbourne Airport.

- Waste
Industrial action continues to disrupt bin collections
The council says protected industrial action by the Australian Services Union, taken during multi-employer bargaining that involves Hume and seven other councils, has disrupted waste collections through 2026. The Mayor issued a statement on 17 September 2026 calling for the dispute to be resolved.
What this means for you: Put your bin out on your usual day. If it isn't collected, leave it out for a catch-up collection; you don't need to report it. The council's waste updates page has the latest.

2026/27 Budget and Council Annual Action Plan adopted
On 22 June 2026 the council adopted its 2026/27 Budget, which raises average general rates by the 2.75% state cap and plans $153.96 million of capital works, and a Council Annual Action Plan with 66 strategic actions.
What this means for you: Your 2026–27 rates notice (issued in September) reflects this budget. The first instalment is due 30 September.
- Election
Cr Carly Moore elected Mayor, Cr Ally Watson Deputy Mayor
At the Statutory Meeting on 12 November 2025, the councillors elected Cr Carly Moore (Aitken Ward) as Mayor and Cr Ally Watson (Yubup Ward) as Deputy Mayor.
What this means for you: The councillors choose the Mayor. The next Statutory Meeting is on 4 November 2026.
