Paper option returning for visitor parking permits
Following a council decision on 31 August 2026, residents will soon be able to choose either a digital or a paper visitor parking permit.

Urban Greening Framework endorsed
The council endorsed an Urban Greening Framework to protect and increase tree canopy on public and private land. The council says Stonnington has 550 hectares of tree canopy, covering 21.5% of the municipality, and that canopy in private gardens has decreased.
What this means for you: The framework's actions feed into the Sustainable Stonnington 2040 plan, which is open for comment on Connect Stonnington.

Have your say on names for four parks
The council proposes official names for four parks: Bailey Avenue Park (Armadale) to Claude Ullin Park, Dixon Street Park (Malvern) to Phyllis Gration Park, Rockley Gardens (South Yarra) to John Chandler Gardens, and South Yarra Siding to Barring Baluk Park. Feedback closes Thursday 8 October 2026.
What this means for you: Comment on Connect Stonnington by 8 October. The council will decide at a public meeting in late October 2026.

30 km/h speed limit trial starts 19 October
From Monday 19 October 2026, a 30 km/h limit applies for 18 months in 12 local areas, including Chapel Street between Toorak Road and Dandenong Road and streets near schools and bike routes in Prahran, Windsor, South Yarra, Toorak, Armadale, Malvern and Glen Iris.
What this means for you: If you drive on the listed streets, slow to 30 km/h from 19 October. The council will take feedback during the trial.

2026–27 budget adopted
The council adopted its 2026–27 budget on 15 June 2026: a $247.29 million operating program and a $49.60 million capital works program. General rates rise by the state cap of 2.75%, and the base waste charge is unchanged. After consultation, the council added funding for the Stonnington Animal Pound and a trader support program for Toorak Village.
