Melton City Council
A council on Melbourne's western edge, home to about 232,000 people. Roof structure going up at the new aquatic and leisure centre
Ten 32-metre glulam timber beams are being lifted into place over the main pool hall of the council's new aquatic and leisure centre in Fraser Rise. The council expects the centre to open in 2028.

2026–27 Budget adopted: $258.7m capital works, rates up 2.75%
The council adopted its 2026–27 Budget with a $258.7 million capital works program and a 2.75% rise in average rates, in line with the state cap. The waste service charge rises to $380 a property.

Cr Lara Carli elected Mayor for 2025–26
At a council meeting on 6 November 2025, the councillors elected Cr Lara Carli (Sugar Gum Ward) as Mayor and Cr Dr Phillip Zada (Mount Atkinson Ward) as Deputy Mayor. She succeeded Cr Steve Abboushi.
What this means for you: The councillors choose the Mayor each year. The next vote is at the council meeting on 5 November 2026.

- Waste
Council approves four-bin kerbside system, with a glass bin from July 2027
The council approved a four-bin system under the state's kerbside reforms: a purple glass bin collected every four weeks from July 2027, and the green FOGO bin for all households rather than opt-in.
What this means for you: New bins are due to arrive in early 2027. Until glass collections start, glass bottles and jars stay in the yellow bin.
