City profile
The City of Melton is on Melbourne's western edge, on the Victorian Volcanic Plains. It runs from Caroline Springs and Taylors Hill in the east, through the growth suburbs of Fraser Rise, Cobblebank and Rockbank, to the township of Melton and rural areas such as Toolern Vale and Exford. The council lists 31 suburbs.

These 31 suburbs are the council's own list. The council marks five as shared: Eynesbury, Mount Cottrell and Truganina with Wyndham, Hillside with Brimbank, and Parwan with Moorabool. We checked each against the official Vicmap locality boundaries. Diggers Rest is also split: about three-quarters of it lies in Melton and the rest in Hume, and the CSA lists it under both councils. The council's list doesn't mark it as shared. Postcodes come from the CSA's suburb and postcode table for Melton; Fieldstone, which isn't in that table, is from Australia Post. The map shows the ABS boundary, and area and density use the ABS area.
