Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council

A large, sparsely populated South West Slopes council — about 11,400 people across nearly 4,000 km², centred on Cootamundra and Gundagai with villages including Stockinbingal, Wallendbeen, Muttama, Nangus and Coolac. Created by a NSW Government merger in 2016, it is now working through a demerger: the Minister for Local Government approved splitting it back into separate Cootamundra and Gundagai councils in July 2025, with a target of both operating from 1 July 2027.
