NSW · Inner West (Sydney) · Local council, made simple
Burwood Council
A compact inner-western Sydney council — around 43,000 people across Burwood, Burwood Heights, Croydon Park and Enfield, in one of NSW's smallest and densest LGAs. It's anchored by the major Burwood town centre and Burwood Westfield, home to a large Chinese-Australian community, and set for high-density renewal around the future Sydney Metro West station at Burwood North. The council runs the local services you use every week — waste, roads, libraries, parks, development — and sets your rates. Here's the snapshot, then the stuff that affects your week.

NSW Government to lead rezoning of the Burwood North Metro precinct
After adopting a Burwood North Precinct Masterplan in May 2024, the council resolved at a January 2025 Extraordinary Meeting to adopt an alternate option following the NSW Government's decision to lead rezoning of the Burwood North Metro Precinct around the future Sydney Metro West station.
What this means for you: If you live or work near Burwood North, this is a NSW Government-led planning process (not solely a council decision) that could change what can be built near the future metro station; the council's page below sets out its masterplan and links to the state process.
