The council's stated direction

Burwood Council's direction is set out in its Burwood2036 Community Strategic Plan and a Delivery Program 2025–2029 with an annual Operational Plan and budget, shaped heavily by high-density growth and the arrival of Sydney Metro West at Burwood North.

The council manages local roads, waste, libraries, parks and planning across one of NSW's smallest and densest LGAs, anchored by the Burwood town centre (a NSW Government-designated Major Centre) and Burwood Westfield. Its Delivery Program is the elected council's statement of commitment for its term.

The Delivery Program funds the council's annual capital works program, including town-centre and open-space projects part-funded through the NSW Government's WestInvest program.
