Waste & recycling

When your bins go out, and how Burwood Council handles recycling and organics. The council runs a kerbside service with a red-lid general-waste bin collected weekly and a yellow-lid recycling bin collected fortnightly. Food-and-garden organics (FOGO) is being introduced ahead of the NSW-wide FOGO mandate (all households by 2030); the council also gives residents a free annual green-waste clean-up plus two free green-waste drop-off days. Each residential property gets two free household clean-ups a year — one scheduled by the council and one you book — capped at about 1.5 m³ each. Burwood is an apartment-heavy area, so unit residents should check arrangements with their strata/building manager. To find your collection day, use the council's Waste Collection Days page or the Burwood Waste app.
