How Strathbogie's kerbside bins work. Households with a kerbside service have four bins: the green-lid organics bin is emptied every week, the red-lid rubbish bin and the yellow-lid recycling bin on alternate fortnights, and the purple-lid glass bin every four weeks. Kerbside collection is compulsory for homes in the council's collection zones, which take in all the major townships (the council says about 60% of residents). Properties outside those zones aren't charged for a kerbside service; those close to a collection route can apply to opt in. Organics (green lid): WeeklyFood and garden waste: fruit and vegetable scraps, meat, bones, seafood, dairy, egg shells, coffee grounds, paper towels, lawn clippings, prunings and branches under 10 cm thick, and compostable bags. Compostable caddy liners are free from the Euroa and Nagambie Customer Service Centres. No plastics, glass, soil, nappies or kitty litter.What goes in →

Glass (purple lid): Every 4 weeksGlass bottles and jars only, loose and lightly rinsed, lids on. Broken drinking glasses, windows, mirrors and cookware go in the red bin.
