Rates & fees
Rates are a main way residents fund Narromine Shire Council. Each year an independent regulator (IPART) sets a 'rate peg' — the maximum percentage the council can lift its total rates income. Here's the current figure, how it compares across NSW, and the things that actually change your bill. Council bills rates in four instalments and also levies separate water, sewerage and domestic waste charges.

- The cap on how much a council's TOTAL rates income can rise this year.
- Core peg
- The rate peg before the population top-up — the part driven by rising costs.
- Population factor
- An extra slice of the rate peg for fast-growing councils.

- Land valuation

- Domestic waste charge
- A separate annual fee for your bins — NOT part of the rate peg.
- IPART
- Sets the rate peg and reviews council pricing.
Rates at a glance
- 3.4%Set by IPART — a core peg of 3.4% (a 3.0% base plus small Emergency Services Levy, ESL subsidy catch-up and productivity adjustments) with a 0.0% population factor. Council's own 2026–27 Operational Plan confirms it has applied the 3.4% peg. The peg caps the council's total rates income, not your individual bill.
- 4.2%IPART's rate peg for Narromine for 2025–26 — a core peg of 4.1% plus a 0.1% population factor.
- ~$860 / year (2024–25)About 29% below the NSW average of ~$1,203 (OLG time-series data).
- Instalment due dates
- 31 August, 30 November, 28 February, 31 MayRatepayers paying by instalments must pay on or before the dates shown on their rates notice; reminder notices are issued. Payment by BPAY, direct debit, in person at the Customer Service and Payments Centre, at any Post Office, or by post.
- Overdue interest (2026–27)
- 9.5% per annumThe maximum interest rate on overdue rates and charges is set annually by the NSW Government under section 566(3) of the Local Government Act; the Minister determined 9.5% p.a. for 1 July 2026 – 30 June 2027 (OLG Council Circular 26-06). Council's 2026–27 Operational Plan applies the same 9.5%.
- Domestic waste charge (2026–27)
- $486.00 per serviceCouncil's adopted 2026–27 charge for each occupied parcel receiving the domestic waste service; $114.50 for an unoccupied parcel. Separate water access, water usage and sewerage charges also apply.
- Concessions
- Eligible pensioners can receive up to $250 off ratesPensioner Concession Card holders (and TPI/EDA gold card holders and eligible war widows/widowers) who own and occupy the property can claim a rebate of up to $250 on rates, plus up to $87.50 each off annual water and sewerage charges. Apply online, in person at 118 Dandaloo Street, or by phone on (02) 6889 9999.
- Special rate variation (SRV)
- None determined in IPART's 2026 roundNarromine was not among the ten councils IPART determined special variation applications for on 2 June 2026, so the ordinary rate peg applies for 2026–27. IPART's Special Variations pages are the register of past and current determinations.
The rate peg limits the council's total rates income, not each household's bill. How your individual rates change depends mostly on how your land value moved relative to other properties at the latest Valuer General revaluation. Water, sewerage and domestic waste are charged separately and are not capped by the peg.
