The council's stated direction
Narromine's direction is set out in its Community Strategic Plan 2035, a 2025–2029 Delivery Program and an annual Operational Plan and budget. The 2026–27 year is weighted towards water security (a new Narromine Water Treatment Plant), industrial land at Craigie Lea, road renewals and the conversion of the Trangie landfill into a transfer station.
The Community Strategic Plan 2035 groups Council's work into four themes: Vibrant Communities, Growing Our Economy, Protecting and Enhancing Our Environment, and Proactive Leadership. Council manages roads, water and sewer, waste, parks, planning and the Narromine Aerodrome across a 5,261 km² shire with about 6,400 residents and roughly $430 million of assets. The Delivery Program is described in the CSP as a statement of commitment to the community from each newly elected council.
Council's adopted 2026–27 Operational Plan describes a balanced budget with over $27.5 million of capital works — $14.8M of civil infrastructure at the Craigie Lea Industrial Estate, $7M of rural, regional and urban road renewals, $1.1M of sewer upgrades and $675,000 for parks, gardens, aquatic centres and sporting facilities, alongside design and early construction of the new Narromine Water Treatment Plant. The OLG's 2023–24 data shows an operating deficit (performance ratio −22.6%) and own-source revenue of 43.6%, so grant funding and long-term financial planning are recurring themes in Council's Integrated Planning & Reporting documents.
Underway now
Trangie landfill converted to a transfer station
Works commenced September 2025; expected completion June 2027With NSW Environment Protection Authority funding, the Trangie Waste Management Facility is being upgraded from a landfill to a modern transfer station, part of a statewide effort to reduce the number of active landfill sites. Waste will be collected in secure bins and transported to Narromine for disposal rather than buried on site. Council says the site stays open throughout, and that operating hours, disposal fees and the materials accepted (general waste, recyclables, garden organics, steel and white goods, tyres and mattresses) do not change.

Narromine Heavy Vehicle Bypass — final stage
Project began 2022; final intersection works commenced October 2025Council commenced works at the intersection of Gainsborough and Tomingley Roads, the final stage of the Narromine Heavy Vehicle Bypass. The upgraded intersection adds left and right turn slip lanes into the western end of Gainsborough Road. The bypass is intended to reduce heavy vehicle traffic along Dandaloo Street through the main part of town. Council said works are mainly on the road shoulders and would be suspended if not finished before harvest.

Updated Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan
Consultation from July 2026Council secured NSW Government funding to review and update the 2022 Narromine Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan. The study, by Lyall & Associates Consulting Water Engineers, incorporates updated Macquarie River flood data, examines local stormwater flooding from heavy rainfall within the township, and reviews the existing Culling Street levee. Every residential and business property in the Narromine township and CBD was sent a flood questionnaire, with responses due by 7 August 2026 and a community information session held at the Council Chambers on 28 July 2026.

New Narromine Water Treatment Plant and Craigie Lea Industrial Estate
2026–27 Operational PlanCouncil's adopted 2026–27 Operational Plan funds completion of detailed design and the start of construction of a new Narromine Water Treatment Plant to improve long-term water security, along with $14.8 million of civil infrastructure works at the Craigie Lea Industrial Estate, $7 million of rural, regional and urban road renewals and upgrades, $1.1 million of sewer upgrades and detailed design for a housing development at 36 Jones Circuit, Narromine.
