Moonee Valley is a mostly residential municipality in Melbourne's inner north-west, between 4 and 13 kilometres from the city centre, as the council describes it. It takes in Moonee Ponds, Essendon, Ascot Vale, Airport West, Avondale Heights, Niddrie, Strathmore and neighbouring suburbs, and part of Flemington and Keilor East. The council's office is the Moonee Valley Civic Centre in Moonee Ponds.

These are the 15 suburbs the council lists. We checked them against the official Vicmap locality boundaries: 13 lie at least 96% inside the ABS boundary, while about 40% of Flemington and about 57% of Keilor East are in Moonee Valley (the rest are in the City of Melbourne and Brimbank), so we mark those two '(part)'. The CSA's suburb list for Moonee Valley also includes Kensington, of which only about 1% lies inside the boundary; we leave it out. Postcodes come from the CSA's suburb and postcode table. The map shows the ABS boundary (ASGS 2025).
