The council's stated direction
Maroondah's direction is set by the Maroondah 2050 – Our future together Community Vision, adopted in May 2025, and the Council Plan 2025–2029, which the council revises each year. The current version is the 2026/27 update, and each year's budget funds its priority actions.
The Council Plan follows the vision's five future outcome areas: a healthy, inclusive and connected community; a safe and liveable community; a green and sustainable community; a vibrant and prosperous community; and a well governed and empowered community.
The 2026–27 budget, adopted on 18 May 2026, plans $72.3 million of capital works, led by the Croydon Community Wellbeing Precinct and the Croydon Main Street Revitalisation. The Council Plan's priority actions for 2026–27 to 2028–29 also include road works at Holloway Road, Croydon North and Glenvale Road, Ringwood North, a Climate Adaptation Plan, and advocacy ahead of the Victorian and Australian Government elections; the budget adds flood mitigation works at San Remo Road, Ringwood North.

Croydon Community Wellbeing Precinct
Staged development; 2026–27 budgetThe council is developing the precinct in stages. The 2026–27 budget includes $16.65 million for its cultural hub and $13.5 million for a multipurpose pavilion and bowling greens.

Bin lid changeover to red and yellow
August to end of October 2026General waste lids are changing from dark green to red and recycling lids from blue to yellow, to meet the state's standard colours. More than 33,000 lids had been changed by 8 September 2026.

Croydon North Kindergarten redevelopment
Funding announced September 2026; planning to startA $9 million redevelopment into an integrated children's centre that will also house the Maternal and Child Health service. The Victorian Government is contributing $4.5 million through a Building Blocks Partnership, and the council $4.5 million.
