Waste & recycling

When your bins go out, and how Junee Shire handles recycling and waste. Kerbside collection covers Junee township and the surrounding residential and rural-residential areas, split into three collection zones based on the railway line and the Kemp Street / Olympic Highway and Belmore Street / Gundagai Road cross-streets. Every zone has its red general-waste bin collected weekly on a Monday; the yellow recycling bin and the lime-green organics bin are each collected fortnightly, on alternating weeks, on your zone's day (Tuesday for Zone 1, Wednesday for Zone 2, Friday for Zone 3). Rural properties outside the kerbside area use one of the shire's six transfer stations instead. Council publishes a four-month collection calendar per zone rather than an address lookup tool — the links are below.

Bin collection at a glance

General waste (red lid)
Weekly — Mondays, all three zonesCouncil asks that the bin is out on Sunday night. The same Monday collection applies to Zone 1, Zone 2 and Zone 3.
Recycling (yellow lid)
Fortnightly — Tuesday (Zone 1), Wednesday (Zone 2), Friday (Zone 3)Alternates week-about with the lime-green organics bin on the same weekday.
Food & garden organics (lime-green lid)
Fortnightly — on the alternate week to your recyclingJunee introduced its third bin in February 2017, with a bench-top caddy and biodegradable bags delivered to each household. It takes lawn clippings, leaves, prunings and weeds plus food scraps — including fruit and vegetable scraps and meat scraps — and other biodegradable material. The service is not opt-out.
Bulky / hard waste
No kerbside collection — self-haul to the Junee Waste Landfill Facility, Kahmoo LaneHard waste (household items, used furniture, white goods, electrical appliances and tools) goes into transportable skip bins at the landfill; gate fees are set each year in Council's adopted Fees and Charges. A designated metal-waste pile at the Junee Transfer Station accepts metal free of charge.
Problem waste & drop-off
Community Recycling Centre shed, Junee Waste Landfill Facility, Kahmoo LaneFree drop-off for paint, fluoro tubes, lead-acid batteries, portable gas cylinders and fire extinguishers. The facility is closed on public holidays; current opening hours are listed on Council's landfill page.

Kerbside collection covers Junee township and its residential and rural-residential fringe. Rural residents who do not receive a kerbside pickup can use one of six transfer stations — Old Junee, Illabo, Bethungra, Junee Reefs, Eurongilly and Wantabadgery — which take domestic household waste in metal skip bins plus recyclables in 240-litre bins; a key is required and is available from Council. No bulky items or farm waste may be left at a transfer station. Report an uncollected, stolen or damaged bin to Council on (02) 6924 8100. Frequencies, zones, calendar dates and gate fees can change — confirm on the official sources below.
