Rates & fees

Rates are the main way residents fund the council. Each year an independent regulator (IPART) sets a 'rate peg' — the maximum percentage the council can lift its total rates income. Junee also has an approved special rate variation from 2023 that sits permanently in its rate base. Here's the current figure, how it compares across NSW, and the things that actually change your bill.

Rates at a glance

3.8%IPART's rate peg for Junee for 2026–27: a core peg of 3.0% plus a population factor of 0.8%. Council's adopted Operational Plan 2026/27 states that general rates have been increased in line with this cap.
6.2%A core peg of 4.5% (base cost change 3.6%, less an emergency-services-levy factor of −0.6%, plus an ESL subsidy catch-up of 0.8% and an election-cost adjustment of 0.6%) plus a population factor and adjustment of 1.7%.

Special rate variation (SRV)
Approved by IPART in June 2023 — permanently in the rate baseIPART approved Junee's application in full: increases in general income of 17.5% in 2023–24 and 12.5% in 2024–25 (each including the rate peg), a cumulative 32.19% over the two years, allowing up to $1.8 million of additional general income above the rate peg to be permanently retained. Council had earlier consulted on a 15% / 10% proposal in September–October 2022.
Instalment due dates
31 August, 30 November, 28 February, 31 MayRates may be paid in full or by quarterly instalments; to pay the full amount, pay on or before the first instalment date.
Overdue interest (2026–27)
9.5% per annumA NSW-wide maximum set annually by the Minister for Local Government under the Local Government Act (cash rate plus 6%, rounded to the nearest half per cent) and applied by every council to overdue rates instalments. Junee's own rates pages do not publish an interest rate figure.
Concessions
Eligible pensioners can apply for a rebateYou must hold a current pensioner concession card, be responsible for paying the rates, and lodge a Pensioner Concession Application Form with your card at the council office.
Other 2026–27 charges
Domestic waste charges +8%; residential sewer charges +4%From Council's adopted Operational Plan 2026/27. These annual charges are separate from the general rate and are not capped by the rate peg.

The rate peg limits the council's total rates income, not each household's bill. How your individual rates change depends mostly on how your land value moved relative to other properties in your rating category at the latest revaluation — Council's own SRV material makes this point: if your land value rises by more than the average for your category, your share of the total rates rises.
