Waste & recycling

Casey is part-way through the Victorian Government's move to four household bins. The council describes them as: general rubbish (red lid), mixed recycling (yellow lid), food and garden organics or FOGO (green lid), and glass (purple lid). An 80-litre purple glass bin is being delivered to every household between 7 September and 20 November 2026, and households that don't yet have a FOGO bin get one in late November to early December 2026. Bin collection at a glance

General rubbish (red lid)
WeeklyThe council asks you to bag items before they go in this bin, and to use it if you're unsure which bin is right.
Mixed recycling (yellow lid)
FortnightlyPaper, cardboard, cans, tins and plastics 1 to 5, placed loose (not bagged), clean and dry. Glass bottles and jars go in this bin only until your purple glass bin arrives. After that, the council treats glass in the yellow bin as contamination.
Food and garden organics (green lid)
Fortnightly — becoming standard for every householdFood scraps and garden waste, with no plastic or 'biodegradable' bags. Homes without a FOGO bin will receive one between 23 November and 4 December 2026 (properties under 400 m² get a 120-litre bin). The council says there is no opt-out under state law, and the FOGO service is charged from 1 January 2027 (see Rates & fees).Kerbside bin changes →
Glass (purple lid)
Every 4 weeks, from November 2026An 80-litre glass-only bin, delivered between 7 September and 20 November 2026. It is collected on the same day as every second FOGO collection. Glass bottles and jars of any colour that held food or drink go in it, rinsed and with the lids off. Drinking glasses, window glass, mirrors, ceramics and light globes don't. The council says it has raised concerns about the mandatory glass service and will keep advocating for changes to the reforms, but must comply with the state's July 2027 deadline.About the glass bin →
Hard waste
2 bookable collections per household per calendar yearIncluded in the annual waste charge, for residential properties (not vacant land). The pile must fit within 3 m³ (3 m wide × 1 m high × 1 m deep), with no item longer than 1.5 m or heavier than 30 kg. Book online or call Waste Management on 9729 9100.Book hard waste →
Drop-off
Transfer stations near Casey (listed by the council)The council's list names Hampton Park Outlook Transfer Station (274 Hallam Road, Hampton Park), Hallam Waste Transfer Station, Pakenham Waste Transfer Station, Frankston Regional Recycling and Recovery Centre (Skye) and Cleanaway Lysterfield.
