Bogan Shire is an undivided (at-large) council: its nine councillors are elected across the whole local government area by proportional representation, rather than by ward. The councillors elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor from among themselves — the NSW Electoral Commission ran no mayoral contest here in 2024, so Bogan does not have a popularly elected mayor. The council is a normally constituted elected body: it is not under a state-appointed Administrator, and it does not appear on the Office of Local Government's list of council investigations and interventions. Unusually for a NSW council, Bogan publishes a direct mobile number for every councillor, and an email address for all but the Mayor. Casual vacancies can change the makeup, so the council's official page has the most current list. The council's councillor page still carries the pre-2024 line about the Mayor's 2021 election and does not state when the current Mayoral term began.
