Waste & recycling

When your bins go out, and how Yass Valley Council handles recycling and bulky waste. The council runs a two-bin kerbside service: a red-lid general-waste bin collected weekly and a yellow-lid recycling bin collected fortnightly. There is currently no kerbside garden-organics or food-and-garden (FOGO) bin in Yass Valley — the NSW-wide FOGO mandate is 2030, and the council has said it will review options subject to feasibility and affordability. There is no scheduled kerbside bulky-waste pickup; instead each rateable property receives two annual waste vouchers (about 600 kg of domestic or green waste free per year) for use at council transfer stations. To find your collection day, use the council's waste calendar.
