Waste & recycling

Yarriambiack Shire collects rubbish every week and mixed recycling every fortnight from all towns in the Shire, plus a kerbside glass bin collected every two months across the whole Shire. Rural properties next to the main routes between towns can have a roadside recycling service. Collections are carried out for the council by Wimmera Mallee Waste Management. There is no food and garden organics (FOGO) bin yet; green waste goes to the council's transfer stations, free of charge.

Bin collection at a glance

Rubbish
Weekly, 120-litre bin as standard80-litre and 240-litre bins are available on written request, at a different charge. Put your bin out the night before — pick-ups can be early. Bins must not weigh more than 70 kg; no hot ashes, and wrap sharp objects. Replacements for stolen, lost or damaged bins are at the ratepayer's cost.

Recycling (yellow lid)
Fortnightly, 240-litre binCollected on the same weekday as your rubbish in towns. Don't bag recyclables. Garden waste, soft plastics, bubble wrap, polystyrene, clothing and toys don't go in this bin. Rural roadside recycling runs on set routes (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays); a 120-litre bin is available to rural users with low recycling.
Glass
Kerbside glass bin, collected every two months across the Shire2026–27 collection days on the council's calendar: Fridays 17 July, 11 September and 6 November 2026, and 15 January, 12 March and 21 May 2027. Food & garden organics
No kerbside organics bin yet — a 240-litre fortnightly FOGO bin planned from 1 July 2027, if the state requires itIn March 2026 the council endorsed a fortnightly FOGO service from 1 July 2027, subject to the state's final regulations and service standards, and said it will not introduce the service unless it is legislated and required. Until then, garden waste goes to a transfer station (free) or a home compost.

Warracknabeal, Murtoa, Hopetoun, Beulah, Minyip, Rupanyup, Woomelang and Speed/TempyWarracknabeal: Tue–Fri 8am–12pm, Sat 9am–12pm, Sun 11am–2pm. Murtoa: Tue and Fri 9am–12pm, Sun 12.30–2pm. Hopetoun: Tue 9am–12pm, Sun 11am–2pm. Beulah: Wed 9–10am, Sun 8.30–9.30am. Minyip: Wed and Sun 10.30–11.30am. Rupanyup: Wed and Sun 9–10am. Woomelang: Wed 10.30–11.30am, Sun 9–10am. Speed/Tempy: Wed 9–10am. All closed Mondays, Good Friday and Christmas Day; open only the first 2 hours on Total Fire Ban and extreme-heat days, and closed on Catastrophic fire danger days. Free at transfer stations
Green waste (up to 1 cubic metre a visit), sorted mixed recyclables, cardboard (small domestic amounts) and e-wasteFree e-waste drop-off is at Warracknabeal, Hopetoun and Murtoa. The free offers are for residents, not businesses. General waste costs from $6 (120-litre minimum) to $45 per cubic metre for trailers; mattresses $47–$57; tyres, asbestos and other items are charged — see the 2026–27 brochure. Hard waste collection (fee for service)
Pre-booked kerbside pick-up for Seniors Card or Disability Health Care Card holders, and residents of Yaapeet and PatchewollockStarted Thursday 23 July 2026. Collections run on Thursdays by area (1st: Murtoa, Minyip, Rupanyup, Lubeck; 2nd: Warracknabeal, Brim, Beulah; 3rd: Hopetoun, Woomelang, Speed, Tempy, Lascelles; 4th: Yaapeet and Patchewollock), up to 6 bookings a day. Batteries and gas bottles
Never in any kerbside binHousehold battery drop-off bins are at the Warracknabeal council office, Minyip IGA, Murtoa Neighbourhood House, Rupanyup IGA, Beulah Business & Information Centre, Hopetoun & District Neighbourhood House, Patchewollock Community Store and Speed Post Office. Gas bottles go to the Warracknabeal, Hopetoun or Murtoa transfer station.

Bin sizes, frequencies and collection days are as the council describes them on its own pages and its 2026–27 Waste & Recycling Calendar (checked September 2026). The council names the yellow lid for recycling but doesn't state lid colours for the rubbish or glass bin, so we don't either. From 1 July 2026 the standard residential rubbish, recycling and glass charge is $598.86 a year for a 120-litre rubbish bin, up 10% — see Rates & fees.
