Waste & recycling

Households on the council's kerbside service have three bins. The food and garden organics (FOGO) bin is collected every week; the recycling and rubbish bins are collected every other week. The council rolled out FOGO to the community in October 2023. Bins can be collected from 6am, so put them out the night before. Use the council's address lookup to find your collection days.

Bin collection at a glance

Food and garden organics (FOGO)
Weekly — lime-green lidFood scraps (including meat and bones) and garden clippings. Pet waste and kitty litter go in the rubbish bin, not FOGO. The council supplies two packs of compostable caddy liners a year for each property; more are available at Community Links. Some properties can apply to opt out of FOGO — the council has an eligibility form.About FOGO →
Recycling
Fortnightly — yellow lidGlass bottles and jars go in this bin; there is no separate glass bin (see below).
Rubbish (landfill)
Fortnightly — red lidBins come in 80, 120 or 240 litres, and the waste charge on your rates depends on the sizes you choose (see Rates & fees).
Glass
No separate glass bin — glass goes in recyclingThe Victorian Government requires councils to introduce a separate glass service by mid-2027. The council says it is one of 34 councils asking the state to pause that requirement and to expand the Container Deposit Scheme to wine and spirit bottles instead, and its 2026–27 budget doesn't include a glass bin. Hard rubbish (annual)
One collection a year for each home, between late January and the end of MarchUp to 3 cubic metres each of hard waste (including e-waste and mattresses), metals and bundled branches, in separate piles. Items no longer than 1.5 m and no heavier than 50 kg. Put it out by the Sunday evening before your week, and not more than a week early. Your week is on the address lookup.Hard rubbish rules →
Bundled branch collection

Tips (waste transfer stations)
