Waste & recycling

When your bins go out, and how Warrumbungle Shire handles waste and recycling across Coonabarabran, Coolah, Dunedoo, Binnaway, Mendooran, Baradine and the surrounding villages. Council runs a two-bin kerbside service to properties inside its defined collection area: a 240-litre general-waste bin collected weekly, and a recycling bin collected fortnightly. There is no kerbside food-and-garden-organics (FOGO) bin here. Which day your bins go out depends on which town — and in Coonabarabran and Dunedoo, on which part of town — you live in: the council publishes eight separate collection calendars rather than one shire-wide one. Council also runs staffed waste facilities in seven locations, and the annual waste management charge on every rateable property includes one free 240-litre bin-equivalent drop-off plus sorted recycling on each visit.

General waste (red lid)
WeeklyA single weekly kerbside collection using 240-litre mobile bins. Additional weekly services are available for an extra annual charge added to your rate notice. Warrumbungle pictures its general-waste bin with a green lid on its own service page, so check the bin, not the colour convention you may know from a city.
Recycling (yellow lid)
FortnightlyOffered to properties that already have a kerbside general-waste collection. Extra recycling bins are charged annually ($133 for a 240 L bin, $169 for a 360 L bin in 2026/27).
Not offeredWarrumbungle has no kerbside organics or garden-waste bin. Small domestic green-waste loads (car, wagon or small ute) are accepted free at council waste facilities; larger loads are charged by the cubic metre.
Bulky / hard waste
No kerbside bulky collection — self-haul, with one free bin-load per visitThe $140 annual waste management charge levied on every rateable property (2026/27) includes one free 240-litre bin of rubbish plus sorted recycling per visit to a council waste facility. Beyond that, loads are charged by vehicle: $20 car/wagon/small ute, $26 standard ute or box trailer, $51 dual-axle trailer or light truck; mattresses $31 each. All fees include GST.
Problem waste & drop-off
Council waste facilities at Coonabarabran, Baradine, Binnaway, Coolah, Dunedoo, Mendooran and UlamambriFree of charge: e-waste, waste motor oil, domestic recyclables, steel, cardboard and glass, and fridges/freezers/air-conditioners with the gas removed by a licensed technician. Chemical drums are taken free under the drumMUSTER program. Fees apply to tyres, gassed fridges ($123) and asbestos (Coonabarabran Landfill only). Opening hours vary between facilities and all close on public holidays; there is no EFTPOS at the sites.

Kerbside collection is only available inside council's defined scavenging area, so many rural properties in this 12,372 km² shire have no kerbside service at all and rely on the waste facilities instead. To start or replace a service, council requires its Domestic Waste Service Request form returned to the Coonabarabran or Coolah office.
