Wangaratta Rural City Council covers the city of Wangaratta, where the Ovens and King rivers meet, and the farming and wine country around it in North East Victoria: the King Valley to the south, with Milawa, Oxley, Moyhu, Whitfield and Cheshunt; Glenrowan and the Warby Ranges to the west; and Eldorado, Everton, Whorouly and Springhurst to the east and north.

The council doesn't publish a list of localities, so we intersected the official Vicmap locality boundaries with the ABS council boundary: a locality is listed when at least 5% of its area is inside the council, and marked '(part)' when less than 95% is. Glenrowan (about 74% inside) and Boweya (about 38%) are shared with Benalla, Upper Lurg (about 10%) with Benalla, Tolmie (about 44%) with Mansfield, and Peechelba (about 22%) with Moira. Archerton has a sliver inside (under 5%) and isn't listed, though the CSA records it under Wangaratta as well as Benalla.
