Mayor & councillors

Walgett Shire is an undivided (at-large) council: its nine councillors are elected across the whole local government area by proportional representation, rather than by ward. The councillors elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor from among themselves (Walgett does not have a popularly elected mayor); they did so at an extraordinary meeting on 8 October 2024 for a two-year term. Council meetings
10:00am on the fourth Tuesday of each month (third Tuesday in December)Held at the Walgett Council Chambers, 77 Fox Street. Agendas are published at least three days beforehand; the open session is live-streamed and recorded. To speak at the public forum you must register in advance.

Party labels are those each councillor was elected under at the September 2024 election (NSW Electoral Commission) — 8 of the 9 current councillors carry an Independent (IND) code; the NSWEC results show no group code for Jo Coleman, so her affiliation is left blank here rather than guessed. Cr Doreen Peters was declared elected on 30 June 2025 through a countback election held after the resignation of Cr Scott Bailey. Casual vacancies can change the makeup, so the council's official page has the most current list; it also publishes each councillor's direct email and mobile number.
