Mayor & councillors

Walcha is an undivided (at-large) council: its eight councillors are elected across the whole local government area by proportional representation, rather than by ward. The councillors elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor from among themselves — Walcha does not have a popularly elected mayor, and the NSW Electoral Commission ran no mayoral contest here in 2024. Ordinary meetings are held in the Council Chambers on Hamilton Street at 1:30pm, on the last Wednesday of the month from February to November and the second Wednesday in December, and members of the public are welcome to attend.
