The council's stated direction

Wagga Wagga's direction is set out in its Community Strategic Plan ('Wagga Wagga 2050', adopted April 2025) and a Delivery Program 2025–2029 with an annual Operational Plan and budget (adopted June 2025), alongside the 'Wagga 2040' Local Strategic Planning Statement for land use.

The council manages local roads, waste, water and sewer, libraries, parks, aquatic and cultural facilities, and planning across a large regional LGA anchored by the city of Wagga Wagga — the largest inland city in NSW and the Riverina's major service centre. Its Delivery Program is the elected council's statement of commitment for its term. Maintaining and renewing infrastructure is a recognised pressure: the council's OLG infrastructure-backlog ratio is well above benchmark, and in March 2026 it resolved to investigate whether a Special Rate Variation is needed.

The Delivery Program 2025–2029 and Operational Plan 2025/26 (adopted 23 June 2025) fund the council's annual capital works and services in line with the Wagga Wagga 2050 Community Strategic Plan.
