Waste & recycling
When your bins go out, and how Tweed Shire handles recycling and bulky waste. Council contracts kerbside collection to Solo Resource Recovery. Urban houses and duplexes get three bins: a red-lid general-waste bin and yellow-lid recycling bin, both collected fortnightly (alternating weeks), plus a green-lid food-and-garden-organics (FOGO) bin collected weekly where the service is available. Units and rural properties get red and yellow bins as standard, with a green bin available on request if there's a service in the area. - FOGO
- The green bin that takes food scraps as well as garden waste.
- Bulky / hard waste collection
- Pickup or drop-off for large items that don't fit in your bins.
- Community Recycling Centre (CRC)
- A free drop-off for 'problem' waste like paint, batteries and oils.
- General waste (red lid)
- Fortnightly80 L, 140 L or 240 L bins; alternates with the yellow recycling bin. Collected by Solo Resource Recovery.
- Recycling (yellow lid)
- Fortnightly140 L, 240 L or 360 L bins; alternates with the red bin.
- Food & garden organics (green lid)
- Weekly, where availableStandard for urban houses and duplexes; for units and rural properties it's available on request if the service covers your area — call Council on 02 6670 2400 to check. Extra green bins can be requested for a cost.
- Bulky / hard waste
- 2 free on-call kerbside collections per financial yearUp to 2 m³ each (or 4 m³ combined if both are used at once); book ahead — busy periods include end-of-financial-year and Christmas/New Year. Book via Solo Resource Recovery or call 02 6670 2400.
- Problem waste & drop-off
- Free — Stotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre (the tip)Free drop-off for Tweed residents (ID required): e-waste, batteries, chemicals, paint, motor oil, gas bottles, fluoro globes, smoke detectors and more. 298 Bartletts Road, Stotts Creek.
