Report a problem to the council

The quickest way to get something fixed — a pothole on a shire road, a fallen tree, a burst main, dumped rubbish — is to lodge it through the council's official channel. Tenterfield's office phone is staffed 9.30am to 4pm on weekdays, so the council publishes a separate set of after-hours mobile numbers for genuine emergencies. One thing worth knowing here: the New England Highway and the Bruxner Highway are state roads managed by Transport for NSW, not the council, so highway hazards go to 131 700.

For urgent safety hazards, call rather than filling in a form — and use the after-hours mobile for the relevant service when the office is closed. Street lighting in this area is maintained by Essential Energy, the electricity distributor, so those faults are ultimately fixed by the distributor.
