Mayor & councillors
Tenterfield Shire is divided into five wards — A, B, C, D and E — and each ward elects two councillors by proportional representation, for ten councillors in total. The councillors elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor from among themselves (Tenterfield does not have a popularly elected mayor); the Mayoral term is two years. Below is who currently holds office, with links to their official profiles and the September 2024 election results. Every councillor publishes a direct council email address on their profile page.

We list who's in office and link to their official profiles and the election results; we don't characterise anyone's politics. Party labels are those each councillor was elected under at the September 2024 election (NSW Electoral Commission) — 8 of the 10 elected councillors were declared with an Independent (IND) group code; the NSWEC results for Tim Bonner (Ward A) and Peter Petty (Ward C) show no group code, so their affiliation is left blank here rather than guessed. Ward B was uncontested in 2024, so Bronwyn Petrie and Roger Turner were declared elected on election day without a vote. Casual vacancies can change the makeup, so the council's official page has the most current list.
