What the council is working on
Recent deliveries, what's underway now, and what's planned next — drawn from the council's own plans, budgets and project pages. We report what the council has publicly said it's doing; every item links to its source.
The council's stated direction
Strathfield's direction is set out in its Community Strategic Plan ('Strathfield 2040', drafted 2025) and a Delivery Program 2025–2029 with an annual Operational Plan and budget, shaped heavily by state-led growth around Strathfield's town centre and the Homebush / North Strathfield transport precincts.
The council manages local roads, waste, libraries, parks and planning across a compact, densely populated inner-western Sydney LGA anchored by Strathfield's major rail interchange. Its Delivery Program is the elected council's statement of commitment for its term, funded alongside an approved multi-year special rate variation to 2026–27.
The Delivery Program is funded alongside an IPART-approved permanent special rate variation phased in over 2023–24 to 2026–27, which the council sought to restore financial sustainability and maintain services.

Homebush / North Strathfield growth & Sydney Metro West
TOD rezoning 2024; Sydney Metro West under constructionThe NSW Government's Homebush Transport Oriented Development Accelerated Precinct rezoned land in and around Homebush for additional housing, served by the future North Strathfield metro station on Sydney Metro West (a state project on the LGA's edge). This is a NSW Government-led planning change, not a council decision; the council participates in planning for the surrounding area.
