Elections & voting
Victorian council elections are held every four years on the fourth Saturday of October and are conducted entirely by post by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC). Voting is compulsory for everyone on the roll. The Borough votes as a single unsubdivided area: all five councillors are elected together, by proportional representation.

- Residents on the state roll, plus ratepayers who applyProperty owners and occupiers who pay rates but don't live in the Borough can apply to the council to join the council roll — once on it, they must vote. This is why the Borough's 2024 enrolment (3,351) is higher than its resident population.
