Waste & recycling
What you get depends on where you live. Homes in the Beaufort and Avoca townships have four bins: a red-lid landfill bin collected every week, a yellow-lid recycling bin every fortnight, and a purple-lid glass bin and a green-lid garden waste bin, each collected every four weeks. Rural homes have a red-lid landfill bin and a yellow-lid recycling bin, collected on alternate fortnights on the same weekday, plus a purple-lid glass bin every four weeks. Put your bins out the night before collection day.

No food scraps, plastic bags or compostable bags. One council page calls the lid green and another lime-green. - Beaufort (2 Tip Road) and Avoca (71 Russell Street) — Thu, Sat and Sun 10am–3pm; Snake Valley (298 Snake Valley–Morchup Road) — Thu and Sun 10am–4pm; Landsborough (2161 Ararat–St Arnaud Road) — Thu and Sat 10am–3pmHousehold quantities of rubbish, green waste and recyclables are free for residents (show your licence or rates notice); non-residents can't use the sites at present. Fees apply to everyone for tyres, mattresses ($26) and waste oil. Cash only. Closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and on Total Fire Ban or Catastrophic fire danger days. - Hard waste and e-waste
- No kerbside hard waste collection found — take items to a transfer stationThe council says furniture, bicycles and mowers can go to the transfer stations. E-waste (TVs, computers, small appliances, degassed fridges and washing machines) is free for residents at Beaufort, Avoca and Snake Valley. Household batteries and mobile phones: the Beaufort and Avoca information centres. - Address lookup, waste app and 2026/27 calendarsAvoca is collected on Wednesdays and Beaufort on Fridays; rural areas are split into Central, Northern and Southern collection areas, each with its own calendar.
