When your bins go out, and how Narrandera Shire handles recycling and waste. Kerbside collection runs in the urban areas of Narrandera, Barellan and Grong Grong, and the council currently operates a two-bin system: a red-lidded general-waste bin collected weekly and a yellow-lidded recycling bin collected fortnightly. There is no green food-and-garden-organics bin yet — the NSW Government has mandated a FOGO service by 2030 and the council has a project page for that transition. Outside the kerbside towns, and for anything the bins won't take, the shire has waste management centres at Narrandera (Red Hill Road) and Barellan (Tip Road), plus a Community Recycling Centre and a Return and Earn machine at the Narrandera site. - Pickup or drop-off for large items that don't fit in your bins.

- A free drop-off for 'problem' waste like paint, batteries and oils.
Bin collection at a glance
- General waste (red lid)
- WeeklyCollected weekly in the Narrandera, Barellan and Grong Grong urban areas. Put bins out the night before; extra bags left beside a bin are not collected.
- Recycling (yellow lid)
- FortnightlyPaper and cardboard, metal and aluminium cans, and plastic containers (lids on, rinsed, loose — not bagged). Glass, soft plastics, clothing and batteries are not accepted in the yellow bin. Council publishes a recycling collection calendar on its Kerbside collection page.
- Not offered yet — planning underway for a 2030 startNarrandera runs a two-bin service. Council's project page states that planning is underway to move from a two-bin to a three-bin collection service to meet the NSW Government's mandated FOGO requirement, with a completion date of 1 January 2030. Until then food waste goes in the red bin.
- Bulky / hard waste
- No kerbside hard-waste collection — self-haul to a waste management centreCouncil does not advertise a kerbside bulky-waste service. Its waste and recycling page describes the Narrandera (16 Red Hill Road) and Barellan (Tip Road) waste management centres as offering free disposal for general waste and sorted waste; other disposal charges are in the council's Fees & Charges. Narrandera opening hours: Tue, Wed and Fri 9am–12pm and 1pm–5pm; Sat and Sun 10am–5pm. Barellan: Thu 3pm–5pm, Sun 8am–11am.
- Problem waste & drop-off
- Community Recycling Centre, Narrandera Waste Management Centre, Red Hill RoadPart of the EPA-supported statewide CRC network. Takes batteries, fluorescent tubes, paints, smoke detectors, gas cylinders and oils. A Tomra 'Return and Earn' reverse vending machine is at the same site.
