Waste & recycling

When your bins go out, and how Muswellbrook Shire Council handles recycling and bulky waste. The council runs a three-bin kerbside service: a green-lid FOGO (food organics and garden organics) bin collected weekly, a red-lid general-waste bin collected fortnightly, and a yellow-lid recycling bin collected fortnightly. The council moved to a combined food-and-garden (FOGO) service from 1 July 2024, so food scraps can now go in the green bin alongside garden waste. The shire is split into collection zones, each with its own calendar, and the council also runs two scheduled bulky-waste collections a year. To find your collection day, use the council's kerbside waste pages.
