Waste & recycling

When your bins go out in Darlington Point, Jerilderie and Coleambally, and where each bin's contents end up. Eligible households in the bin-collection service area get a three-bin set: a bright-green food-and-garden-organics (FOGO) bin collected weekly, plus a red-lidded garbage bin (240 or 120 litre) and a yellow-lidded recycling bin that are emptied on the same day of the week but on alternate weeks — so each is fortnightly. The collection day differs by town: FOGO is Monday in Coleambally and Jerilderie and Tuesday in Darlington Point, with the red and yellow bins on the following Wednesday (Coleambally, Jerilderie) or Thursday (Darlington Point). Council publishes a downloadable waste calendar for each town.

Bin collection at a glance

General waste (red lid)
FortnightlyEvery second Wednesday in Coleambally and Jerilderie; every second Thursday in Darlington Point. Alternates with the yellow recycling bin, which is emptied on the same weekday in the intervening week. Red-bin garbage goes to the local landfill.
Recycling (yellow lid)
Fortnightly240 litre bin, alternating with the red garbage bin on the same weekday. Kerbside recycling is sent to Kurrajong Recycling at Wagga Wagga.
Weekly240 litre bin. Monday in Coleambally and Jerilderie, Tuesday in Darlington Point. FOGO is processed at Wormtech at Carrathool into compost. Garden cuttings and prunings can go in this bin.
Bulky / hard waste
One free kerbside collection a year, generally in October — no booking, but strict rulesAn annual bulky-waste and green-waste kerbside collection, run town by town: in 2025 the dates were Jerilderie 13 October, Coleambally 20 October and Darlington Point 27 October. Bulky waste and green waste must be in two separate piles, each no more than 2 cubic metres (about one 7x4 box trailer), out on the nature strip before 8am on the Monday of your collection week. Tyres, fridges, chemicals, asbestos and demolition waste are not collected. Council can help move waste to the kerb for senior residents and people with disability — call 1300 676 243.
Problem waste & drop-off
Community Recycling Centres at the Coleambally and Jerilderie waste depots — free drop-offPaint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, motor and other oils, car and household batteries, smoke detectors, and fluorescent tubes and globes, in household quantities (roughly 20 litres or 20 kg per waste type). Council offices also take household batteries, smoke alarms, light globes, mobile phones, toner cartridges and car batteries. Sharps and pharmaceutical waste go to Marilyn's Pharmacy (Coleambally), Massa Pharmacy (Darlington Point) and, in Jerilderie, the public toilets at 63 Jerilderie Street. Three landfills operate at Coleambally, Darlington Point and Jerilderie on limited set hours.
