Mayor & councillors

Murrumbidgee is one of the few small NSW councils that is still divided into wards. Its nine councillors are elected three each from three wards — Jerilderie, Murrumbidgee East (centred on Coleambally) and Murrumbidgee (centred on Darlington Point) — so each town has its own bloc of representatives. The councillors then elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor from among themselves every two years; Murrumbidgee does not have a popularly elected mayor. Cr Ruth McRae OAM (Independent, Jerilderie Ward)Elected Mayor by the councillors. She was Murrumbidgee Council's inaugural mayor after the 2016 merger.

We list who's in office and link to their official profiles and the election results; we don't characterise anyone's politics. Party labels are those each councillor was elected under at the September 2024 election (NSW Electoral Commission) — eight of the nine were declared with an Independent (IND) code; the NSWEC result for Judith Saxvik (listed by the council as Judy Saxvik) carries no party code, so her affiliation is left blank here rather than guessed. Casual vacancies can change the makeup, so the council's official page has the most current list.
