Since 30 June 2025 the council's residential kerbside service has used four bins: a green-lid food and garden organics (FOGO) bin collected weekly, a yellow-lid recycling bin and a red-lid rubbish bin each collected fortnightly, and a purple-lid glass bin collected every four weeks. Township (urban) households have all four bins; rural households have rubbish, recycling and glass, and FOGO is optional. The council charges for the service on homes and businesses in its compulsory waste charge zone (within 2 km of a township) or in a delivery zone.

Food and garden organics (FOGO): Weekly — green lid (120 L)All food scraps, including meat, bones, dairy and citrus, plus lawn clippings, leaves, prunings and weeds. The council supplies a kitchen caddy; liners are optional but must be certified compostable (AS 4736). Resource Recovery Centres (tips): Alexandra, Eildon, Kinglake (Kinglake West), Marysville and YeaHours differ by site; all are open Saturday and Sunday. No cash (EFTPOS only), and all are closed on Total Fire Ban days and on Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Marysville doesn't take mattresses, couches, tyres or e-waste, and Eildon doesn't take e-waste. Green waste is free during October and after a declared emergency or major storm. The lid colours, sizes and frequencies above are as the council lists them for the service that began on 30 June 2025. The council says it moved to four bins to meet the Victorian Government's requirement under the Circular Economy (Waste Reduction and Recycling) Act 2021.
