Murrindindi is a rural shire in Victoria's Hume region, north-east of Melbourne. Its main towns are Alexandra, where the council's offices are, Yea and Kinglake, with Eildon, Marysville, Buxton, Flowerdale, Toolangi and many smaller settlements. The council's 2026–27 budget says the January 2026 fires affected more than a third of the Shire's area.
