Area profile

A quick snapshot of Moyne Shire, in south-west Victoria between Glenelg Shire to the west and Corangamite to the east, next to the City of Warrnambool. Its towns include Port Fairy — where the main council office is — Koroit, Mortlake, Macarthur and Peterborough, with smaller towns such as Caramut, Garvoc, Hawkesdale, Kirkstall, Panmure, Woolsthorpe and Yambuk. The Shire was created in 1994 from the former Shires of Belfast, Mortlake, Minhamite and Warrnambool, the Borough of Port Fairy, and small parts of three other shires. The council acknowledges the Eastern Maar and Gunditjmara Peoples as the Traditional Owners of the land.
