The council's stated direction
The Shire's direction is set by the Community Vision to 2040 and the Council Plan 2025–2029. Each year an Annual Action Plan, prepared with the budget, sets out the actions for that year, and the Shire reports progress in quarterly Community Reports.
The Council Plan has four strategic directions. 'Place': protected natural environments, the Green Wedge, beaches and foreshores, and connected townships with well-maintained roads and transport. 'People': a safe, accessible, inclusive and healthy community. 'Prosperity': a thriving local economy, tourism and farming, and support for community groups and volunteers. 'Performance': a financially sustainable, well-governed council and responsive services.
The 2026–27 budget, adopted on 29 June 2026, plans $46.8 million of capital works (about $60 million with carried-forward works). It lists $22.8m for roads, drainage and footpaths, including $2.9m for blackspot road-safety works, $2.7m for Creswell Street East in Crib Point and $1.4m for footpath renewal, plus $1.3m for Hastings Park upgrades. The budget also borrows to fund food and garden waste bins for every household.

Future of Shire aged care services
Council to reconsider on 29 Sep 2026In June 2026 the council decided to stop delivering Meals on Wheels, Community Transport and Group Social Support by July 2027. After the Federal Government extended the Commonwealth Home Support Program to 2029, the council is reconsidering. It has three options before it: exit as planned, keep all three services to 2029, or keep only Meals on Wheels to 2029. Current services continue in the meantime.

Sports oval turf remediation
Ovals expected to reopen early 2027The Shire is repairing turf at R J Rowley Reserve (Rye), Olympic Park Reserve (Rosebud), David MacFarlane Reserve (Sorrento) and Emil Madsen Reserve (Mount Eliza), damaged after a contractor applied the wrong herbicide. Boneo and Olympic Park Oval 2 are also being refurbished after extra use. Works are weather-dependent.

Roads, drainage and footpaths program
2026–27 budget$22.8 million for road, drainage and footpath works in 2026–27, including $2.9m of blackspot road-safety improvements, $2.7m to construct Creswell Street East in Crib Point and $1.4m for footpath renewal. The budget says operating and capital spending on roads and drainage rises by $9.6 million (24%).

Food and garden waste bin for every household
Bins delivered in 2027; in the waste charge from 1 July 2027Households without a food and green waste (FOGO) bin will receive one. The Shire says it will share details of the rollout closer to delivery and hasn't yet published the new waste charge. It is not introducing a separate glass bin for now.

Koopalanda Playground renewal, Red Hill South
Consultation on the concept design open (Sep 2026)The Shire is consulting on a draft concept design for renewing the playground at Koopalanda Close. The 2026–27 budget includes $250,000 for a new playground at Koopalanda Reserve.
