City profile
Mitchell Shire runs along the Hume Freeway and the rail line north of Hume City, from Beveridge and Wallan through Kilmore and Broadford to Seymour. The council lists the townships of Beveridge, Broadford, Heathcote Junction, Kilmore, Puckapunyal, Pyalong, Reedy Creek, Seymour, Tallarook, Tooborac, Wallan and Wandong, as well as extensive rural areas. It describes itself as the fastest-growing local government area in Victoria, with most growth expected in and around Beveridge, Wallan, Kilmore and Seymour. The council offices are at the Mitchell Shire Civic Centre in Broadford.

The council doesn't publish a list of localities with postcodes, so we built this one: every official Vicmap locality with at least 5% of its area inside the ABS council boundary, marked '(part)' when less than 95% is inside. Eight are shared with neighbouring councils: Beveridge (about 66% in Mitchell), Bylands (72%), Tarcombe (39%), Mia Mia (32%), Mangalore (28%), Highlands (28%), Avenel (27%) and Flowerdale (12%). Kalkallo and Tantaraboo have slivers under 1% inside and are left out. Postcodes come from the Vicmap postcode boundaries. The map shows the ABS boundary (ASGS 2025).
