Waste & recycling

How Mildura's kerbside bins work. Households with a kerbside service have four bins: a green-lid organics bin for food and garden waste, emptied every week; a red-lid rubbish bin and a yellow-lid recycling bin, each emptied every fortnight; and a purple-lid glass bin, emptied every four weeks. Residents without a kerbside service use the council's landfills and rural transfer stations. The council doesn't run a hard rubbish collection. Bin collection at a glance

Organics (green lid, 240 L)
Weekly — food scraps and garden wasteAll food waste, including meat, bones, seafood, dairy and citrus, plus garden clippings, prunings and weeds. Only bags marked with the AS 4736 compostable symbol can go in this bin; the council supplied each household with a kitchen caddy. The service started on 6 July 2020 and isn't optional. Glass (purple lid, 120 L)
Every four weeksIntroduced on 1 July 2024 under the state's four-bin requirement. Glass bottles and jars only, emptied and lightly rinsed; labels can stay on. Households can't opt out; businesses can opt in. Residents without a kerbside service can drop glass off at rural transfer stations.Glass bin FAQs →
Hard rubbish
No kerbside hard rubbish collectionIn the council's words: 'Council does not offer a hard rubbish collection or disposal service.' Aroundagain, a not-for-profit at the Mildura Landfill, takes unwanted household goods for free; landfills and transfer stations accept other items.Your disposal options →
Mildura Landfill
Ontario Avenue, Mildura — weekdays 8.15am–4.45pm, weekends and public holidays 9.30am–4.45pmThe tip face closes at 4.30pm. Closed Good Friday, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and on days the CFA declares Catastrophic. Access to the tip face may be restricted during or after rain. Find your bin day
Address lookup, or the Area 1 and Area 2 collection calendars for 2026–27Put bins out the night before. Bins are emptied on all public holidays except Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Some services can't run on Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger days.Check my bin day →

Kerbside collection covers households with access to a kerbside service; the council's glass page says drop-off points are at rural transfer stations for residents without one. The kerbside bins are collected by the council's contractor, Cleanaway. Services and fees change, so check the council's pages below.
