City profile
Mildura Rural City Council covers Victoria's far north-west, from the Murray River south into the Mallee. Most residents live in and around Mildura and the nearby towns of Irymple, Red Cliffs, Merbein and Nichols Point, in the irrigated Sunraysia district. The rest of the area is dryland farming country and national park, with towns including Ouyen, Murrayville, Underbool, Walpeup and Werrimull. The Murray River forms the northern boundary with New South Wales; Wentworth Shire is across the river.

The council doesn't publish a list of localities, so we intersected the official Vicmap locality boundaries with the ABS council boundary: a locality is listed when at least 5% of its area is inside the council, and marked '(part)' when less than 95% is. Big Desert (about half inside), Patchewollock (about 38%) and Tempy (about 60%) are shared with neighbouring councils; the CSA records Patchewollock and Tempy under Yarriambiack as well as Mildura. The Murray-Sunset locality, which is almost all national park, is inside the council but has no postcode in the CSA's table, so we don't list it.
