The council's stated direction
Maribyrnong's direction is set by the Council Plan 2025–2029, adopted in August 2025. Each year the council sets out an Annual Council Action Plan and reports on progress quarterly and in its Annual Report. The Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025–2029 sits alongside it.
The Council Plan's vision is 'a sustainable, vibrant city where history is acknowledged, differences are respected, and diverse communities are supported to connect and thrive'. It has five priorities: Ethical Governance, Wellbeing and Safety, Environmental Sustainability, Thriving Community and Connected Community.
The 2026–27 budget, adopted on 16 June 2026, commits $153.8 million to services and $91.45 million to capital works. That includes almost $22.5 million for RecWest Footscray and Shorten Reserve, over $13 million for the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre splash park and $7 million for Creative West. The Mayor's statement on his election named advocacy on Footscray's revitalisation, mental health supports, air quality, transport, flood recovery and community infrastructure.

Year two in 2026–27The adopted 2026–27 budget allocates almost $22.5 million to RecWest Footscray and Shorten Reserve, the second year of the redevelopment.

Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre splash park
Funded in the 2026–27 budgetOver $13 million is budgeted in 2026–27 for the design and installation of a water slide and splash park at the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre.

Raleigh Park, Footscray, made larger and permanent
Concept endorsed Sep 2026; build 2027–28The endorsed concept adds 500 m² for garden beds, lawn and table tennis, with a half court, nature play, play equipment and seating. Partly funded by the State Government's Pick My Park program.

Yarraville Oval Master Plan
Endorsed Sep 2026The plan includes restoring the grandstand, extending the pavilion, rebuilding the oval to improve drainage, a new cricket practice facility and more footpaths.

Food and garden organics for apartments
From Jul 2028The council plans to extend the FOGO service to apartments and other multi-unit homes in July 2028, under the state's kerbside reforms. A decision on a separate glass service waits on the state's final Service Standards.

Former Masonic Hall, Yarraville, bought for community use
Purchased Sep 2026The council bought the former Masonic Hall at 1 Willis Street, Yarraville, for $2.25 million. It will be part of a Yarraville Community Facilities Feasibility study, with community engagement; any works would go through the annual budget process.
