Waste & recycling

Mansfield's kerbside service covers properties with a dwelling in the council's designated collection area. Those households get a red-lid general waste bin collected weekly and a yellow-lid recycling bin collected fortnightly. In urban areas there is also a green-lid food and garden organics (FOGO) bin, collected fortnightly on the alternate week to recycling — automatically in some areas and opt-in in others. The council says the services are non-optional where they are provided, and are charged on your rates whether or not you put the bins out.

Bin collection at a glance

General waste (red lid)
Weekly; 80, 120 or 240 litresNew services get a 120-litre bin unless you ask otherwise. You can change the bin size once a year, in May (new owners once at any time in their first year).

Depending on where you live you received a green bin automatically or can opt in; properties in the rural living zone and most townships don't receive one automatically. Food scraps (including meat, bones and dairy), garden waste, pizza boxes and certified compostable liners only. The council's roll-out maps cover Bonnie Doon, Goughs Bay, Jamieson, Macs Cove, Maindample, Mansfield, Merrijig and Sawmill Settlement. Glass
No separate kerbside glass binThe 2026–27 Budget includes a new glass-only container drop-off skip at the Resource Recovery Centre. The council has also endorsed an initial 39 Container Deposit Scheme public bins across the Shire.

Resource Recovery Centre
163 Monkey Gully Road, Mansfield — 9am to 3pm, seven days a weekSeven-day opening from July 2026. Closed Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day; drop-offs up to 15 minutes before closing. Card payments only (no cash). 2026–27 fees include $100 per cubic metre of domestic waste (up to 2 m³), $15 per cubic metre of green waste, $38 per mattress; car and household batteries, e-waste, TVs, steel and small quantities of household recyclables are free. Missed, damaged, stolen or new bins

Bin colours and frequencies are as the council describes them on its own pages in September 2026. The 2026–27 kerbside charges (on your rates notice, unchanged from 2025–26) are $163.70, $245.55 or $491.10 for an 80-, 120- or 240-litre rubbish bin, $131.70 for recycling and $102.00 for the green FOGO bin, plus a $76.70 community waste charge on every rateable property, including vacant land. The council puts the average household waste charge at $453.96 without a green bin and $555.96 with one.
