The council's stated direction
The council's direction is set by its Council Plan 2025–2029, adopted on 21 October 2025, which sits under the community's long-term Community Vision 2040 and includes the Shire's Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan. The council says the plan was shaped through councillor and community workshops and a deliberative community panel; the specific actions are set each year through the budget.
The Council Plan 2025–2029 has three themes, each with strategic objectives — for example strengthening community connection, looking after the land and 'country character', delivering infrastructure for a growing population, and financial sustainability.
The 2026–27 Budget, adopted on 30 June 2026, raises the average rate by 2.65% (below the 2.75% state cap), keeps waste charges unchanged and funds an $18.88 million capital works program. The council says more than $13.6 million of that is grant-funded, including the Mansfield Station Precinct works, the Lords Reserve pavilion, Mansfield Aquatic Centre upgrades and Sporting Complex changerooms, and that 45 community submissions were received on the budget, 80% of whose ideas were included. The Resource Recovery Centre moves to seven-day opening, which the council says is funded from savings.

Mansfield Station Precinct
Works in 2026–27A package of grant-funded works at the historic Station Precinct, funded through the federal Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program: a fenced dog park, a pump track and shared path, refurbishment of the Goods Shed and Fertiliser Shed and fit-out of the Mansfield Heritage Museum, with car parking, landscaping, a Changing Places facility and an all-abilities playground starting in 2026–27.

Mansfield dog park
Construction began September 2026Mansfield's first purpose-built off-leash dog park, at the Station Precinct, with separate areas for small and large dogs, agility equipment, shade, water stations and solar lighting. The $381,250 construction contract went to A & R Landscaping after a tender; the state's Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action contributed $175,000.

Mansfield Flood Study
Draft mapping released July 2026New flood mapping for Mansfield township, prepared with the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority to replace studies from 2005 and 2006. The council wrote to owners of properties it identified as potentially affected and held drop-in sessions; it says owners who haven't heard from it are likely not in a flood-prone area.

Consultation closed 25 September 2026A proposal for two emergency water supply bores for farmers during drought — near the CFA shed at Piries–Goughs Bay Road and Mansfield–Woods Point Road, and on McCormacks Road next to McCormack Park — subject to a state grant application.

Delatite Valley Plan
Adopted 18 August 2026A 20-year plan for land use, infrastructure and community initiatives across the Delatite Valley, from Mansfield to Mt Buller and Mt Stirling, adopted after three drafts. The council says it proposes no rezoning in the upper valley because of the extreme bushfire risk.
