Lockhart Shire is divided into three wards — A, B and C — and each elects three councillors by proportional representation, for nine in total. The council's own description is that all councillors represent the whole of the Shire once elected. The councillors elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor from among themselves on a two-yearly basis; Lockhart does not have a popularly elected mayor. Every councillor publishes a direct email address and mobile number on the council's website. Cr Peter Sharp (B Ward)Elected Mayor by the councillors. First elected to the council in 2016. Mayor and Deputy Mayor are chosen on a bi-annual basis.

We list who's in office and link to their official profiles and the election results; we don't characterise anyone's politics. Party labels are those each councillor was elected under at the September 2024 election (NSW Electoral Commission) — 7 of the 9 elected councillors were declared with an Independent (IND) party label; the NSWEC results for Peter Sharp and James Walker (both B Ward) show no party label, so their affiliation is left blank here rather than guessed. A Ward's three seats were uncontested in 2024 and its councillors were declared elected on 14 September 2024 without a vote. Casual vacancies can change the makeup, so the council's official page has the most current list.
