Waste & recycling

When your bins go out, and how Liverpool Plains Shire handles waste across Quirindi, Werris Creek, Willow Tree, Wallabadah, Currabubula and the smaller villages. Council runs the kerbside service through a private contractor (J R Richards & Sons) in the town areas of Blackville, Borambil, Braefield, Caroona, Currabubula, Pine Ridge, Quirindi, Spring Ridge, Wallabadah, Werris Creek, Warrah and Willow Tree: a red-lidded garbage bin collected weekly and a yellow-lidded recycling bin collected fortnightly. There is no green FOGO bin here — instead the council runs two once-a-year kerbside pick-ups, one for bulky waste (around April–May) and one for garden organics (around October–November). Outside the towns, self-hauled loads go to the shire's staffed waste facilities and unstaffed transfer stations. Your collection day comes from the printed Waste Collection Calendar, not an address look-up tool.

Bin collection at a glance

General waste (red lid)
WeeklyCollected by the council's contractor in the town areas listed above. Put the bin out the night before, or no later than 5am on collection day, half a metre from the kerb (or the road shoulder in rural areas) with the handle towards the house and the lid closed.
Recycling (yellow lid)
FortnightlyGlass bottles and jars, plastic milk and drink containers, aluminium and steel cans, empty aerosols and clean foil, milk and juice cartons, paper and cardboard. Do not bag recyclables — loose only.
Food & garden organics (green lid)
Not offered — no green kerbside binInstead, council runs an annual kerbside garden-organics collection (generally October–November, timed for peak spring growth). It is available to households that receive a waste and recycling service EXCEPT Caroona, Walhallow, Spring Ridge, Premer, Blackville and Pine Ridge. Limit two cubic metres per property; prunings and limbs no longer than 1.8m and 250mm thick, bundled with rope or string (not wire), nothing in plastic bags.
Bulky / hard waste
One free kerbside clean-up a year — no bookingThe 2026 round ran 20 April to 1 May in two zones: Zone 1 (Currabubula, Quirindi, Wallabadah, Willow Tree, Werris Creek and Braefield) from Monday 20 April, Zone 2 (Caroona, Premer, Spring Ridge, Blackville, Borambil, Pine Ridge and Walhallow) from Monday 27 April. Limit two cubic metres (about one 6x4 box trailer). Whitegoods must be degassed with doors removed; fridges, freezers, air-conditioners, tyres, building rubble, garden waste and hazardous waste are not accepted. Problem waste & drop-off
Quirindi Waste Management Facility, Merinda Road (off Werris Creek Road)Operated by Quirindi Aboriginal Corporation trading as Merinda Recyclers, who also run a buy-back store in Hawker Street, Quirindi. Takes batteries, used oil, empty gas cylinders, scrap metal, whitegoods, tyres, green waste, building materials and (with prior notice) asbestos. Further facilities at Werris Creek and Willow Tree, and transfer stations at Wallabadah, Blackville, Caroona, Pine Ridge, Premer and Spring Ridge; all except Wallabadah have a recycling wall open 24/7 for sorted recyclables. All sites are cashless (card or EFTPOS only, no surcharge). Opening hours vary — check the schedule, or call Merinda Recycling on 0438 485 677.

Kerbside collection covers the town areas only — properties outside them use the waste facilities and transfer stations. Clean-up dates, facility hours and gate fees change from year to year, so confirm the current round and charges on the official sources below before putting anything out.
