The council's stated direction
Latrobe City's direction is set by its Council Plan and Community Vision 2025–2029, which the council endorsed unanimously in 2025. The Council Plan also includes the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, which used to be a separate plan. The Community Vision describes Latrobe City in 2036 as 'a vibrant, thriving, healthy, connected and welcoming regional community where everyone feels safe and involved.'
The Council Plan has three strategic directions — Our Economy (investment, jobs, growth), Our City (liveable, sustainable, connected) and Our Community (healthy, inclusive, safe) — supported by Our Organisation (leadership, collaboration, capability). The council says the plan has measurable key performance indicators that will be reported to the community.
The 2026/27 budget, adopted on 29 June 2026, raises average rates by the 2.75% cap and plans $90.4 million of capital works. Besides $30.4 million for the Gippsland Logistics and Manufacturing Precinct, named projects include the Commercial Road car park in Morwell ($9.6 million, Regional Car Parks Fund), a multi-use pavilion at Gaskin Park ($3.0 million), a netball and tennis pavilion at Yinnar Recreation Reserve ($1.6 million) and community facility upgrades under the state's Regional Sports Infrastructure Program ($5.3 million).

Moe Activity Centre Plan (Amendment C155)
Public exhibition expected in late 2026, if the Minister authorises itCouncil endorsed a draft plan for the Moe town centre at its July 2026 meeting, replacing the 2007 plan. It proposes an Activity Centre Zone across most of the Moe CBD, updated local planning policy and an environmental audit overlay on sites with potential contamination risks.

Food scraps in the organics bin (FOGO)
Started 1 July 2026Households can now put all food scraps, including meat, small bones and dairy, in the lime-green lid bin with garden waste. The council says the material is composted at Pinegro's facility in Morwell. Collection days didn't change.
